Being a Link volunteer is not all about work. Each placement is structured so that volunteers get between 4-6 weeks travel time, in addition to weekends. There are opportunities not only to explore your host country in greater depth, but also to visit other Link countries and placements where you can put your new found skills to use.

After living as part of a local community, Link volunteers are generally more streetwise and culturally sensitive when it comes to travelling. Link volunteers submit a travel itinerary before travelling and receive advice about locations which are unsafe to travel to.
Many volunteers have been invited to stay with the families of those they meet at their placements, exposing them still further to the reality of the culture they are living in.
In the past this has included staying at a tea planter’s bungalow in Sri Lanka, visiting the family of a Tibetan monk in Ladakh and celebrating the Chinese New Year in the traditional way with a family in Shanghai.
All unique examples of how you can leave the tourist beaten track behind and make the experience truly your own!
