Some organisations in Scotland have agreed to a partnership with Samanikethanaya as endorsement of the initiative. They share in the objectives that it aims to achieve. Theirs is not to provide funding, but rather expertise in their particular field to aid the project. Different organisations contribute and benefit in different ways.
The first of such partners to come on board, Dundee University has seconded a member of staff to assist the initiation of the project’s business plan. John MacKenzie, Company Development Officer at the university, has a wealth of knowledge and his input has been invaluable.
In return, the university’s involvement will help further its reputation in Sri Lanka, a country in which it recruits students. Field trips for staff and a link with the University of Peradeniya are other potential benefits.
Dundee is a focus for the Scottish side of partnerships with the centre, as is reflected in the initiative’s full title; Samanikethanaya Dundee International Centre. Dundee has enterprises in a number of fields - i.e. medical research, crop research, graphic design, higher education institutes etc. It truly is a City of Discovery.
Fife Council are keen to see partnerships formed between Saminekethanaya and Fife based institutions, especially schools and colleges. The aim is that young people in Fife will be able to engage with Samanikethanaya for mutual benefit.
