Medical Electives Abroad

Link has recently started working in conjunction with Ninewells Teaching Hospital in Dundee to provide 6-8 week elective placements for medical students in their final year.  Placements are currently offered in India and Sri Lanka.

What type of placements are offered?
Link has well-established partnerships with hospitals and welfare centres in both India and Sri Lanka.  These placements are in urban and rural settings and are focused on many different aspects of medicine.  Volunteers on Link’s English teaching programme have been going to these placements for many years.  Medical students have a shorter placement and shadow doctors in hospitals and medical centres. The type of placement and location are discussed with the student to ascertain their needs and preferences and sometimes the placement duration can be spent between two different places.  For more information on cost and what is included, please see below.

Who can undertake medical elective placements with Link?
4th year medical students who want to spend their medical elective period abroad.  Students attend an interview and dependent on satisfactory references, a place is offered.

Cost
The package is fully inclusive* and costs £2000.   An initial deposit of £150 is paid to secure a place and then two further instalments of £1000 and £850.
