Volunteer Work – General Information

Link placements are for six months and include around 6 weeks of travel time.  Volunteers leave in August or February.  Link volunteers work in pairs.

All Link placements for volunteers are carefully researched and developed.  Link identifies new placements through the many contacts it has developed over the last fourteen years.  It then spends time liaising with a potential placement, before visiting it to make the final detailed arrangements.  Care is taken to ensure that placements will be of real use to the community.  Volunteers are not replacements for local employees!

Link also has an ongoing programme of fundraising events and development projects related to the placements where volunteers work.  These include supporting HIV/AIDS programmes in India, tsunami related projects in Sri Lanka as well as providing new equipment, buildings and facilities.  Volunteers with Link know they are contributing to an ongoing longstanding aid programme and many stay involved with fundraising years after their placement overseas has come to an end.

Link offers placements in rural and urban settings.  All volunteers teach English formally or informally through activities such as sports, music, arts and crafts, songs, games and other activities.  Volunteers work with a wide variety of ages from small babies to young adults depending on the placement.

Preferences are taken into account at interview, and volunteers are matched to the placement we feel is best suited to their skills and the project’s needs.  Volunteers do not find out exactly which country or which placement they are going to until about 3 months before departure.  Click on the country icons to find out more!!!
